I can understand why people will love, or hate this place. We had an enjoyable experience, the chef was personable, funny, and made the experience better. We felt some of the prices were high, and the seating arrangement may turn some people off as well. The waitress was attentive, but it would've been nice if she gave suggestions and explained the menu to us. The shrimp wasn't worth the price. Be careful not to eat all of your rice waiting for the rest of your food to be cooked, especially if you order something that the chef gets to last (chicken & scallops). Overall we may go again when we're in town, but it's not on my must have list of food places in Monroe.

Great food and service... Best sushi in town and habachi food is excellent. The restaurant have full bar and love their Mai tai and margarita too.

I love Tokyo. A great hibachi with some pretty good sushi too. The teppanyaki steak, mmm! Love!

Tokyo is one of the classier places in Monroe/West Monroe to eat. It's a good place to celebrate and a great place to take someone on a fun date. The food will knock your socks off and the chef's are good entertainment. Bring your wallet, but it's worth it.

I never wrote a review on Yelp before but this place just gave me a reason to. My fiancé and I are originally from New Orleans and currently reside here in West Monroe. We both used to work in a Japanese restaurant for many years, so we pretty much know how this type of cuisine works. Let me just say, our experience was horrible! Being a server ourselves, we usually understand for other servers as well. However, this was a whole 'nother story. First, we walked in for dinner and the hostess just stared at us, no greetings or anything. After I told her it was dinner for two at a regular table, she sat us down with only one menu. Then, the server came and got our drink orders. He came back serving our drinks with his fingers around the rim of our cups. Gross. What if I didn't want to drink from the straw but from the glass itself? Who knows how clean his hands are. Onto the ordering. We ordered tuna tataki, which didn't taste fresh at all. It was warm and rubbery. We also ordered two rolls, a spicy salmon roll (spicy chopped salmon and cucumbers) and an Addy roll (shrimp tempura, cream cheese, and crawfish inside, topped with baked salmon). I thought you can't go wrong with something as simple as those ingredients in those rolls but obviously it can go wrong. Even soy sauce didn't help. Lastly, we ordered a shrimp and scallops hibachi dinner. It was ok, nothing special. The server didn't give us any small sharing plates, no utensils, no napkins, no sauces that's supposed to come with the food, nor the clear soup that came with the meal. I had to ask for it and when he finally brought the soup to me, there was no spoon. How was I supposed to eat it? Sip it? We didn't finish our food like how we normally would. I decided to ask for a small togo box to take the leftover shrimp and scallops but the server was no where to be found. I decided to go grab one myself and guess where it was? The togo boxes were placed under the spot where the servers put dirty plates. GROSS! If you're from a city like us and know your Japanese cuisine, don't waste your time and money here. I usually don't complain about service and pricing but for how much we spent on this meal was a waste. I have no problem paying for a high tab if it was worth it but for that, it was not worth it at all. With us being servers, we know how it feels to be one. When it comes to tipping, we always tip well. Even if the service was bad, we'd still leave a twenty percent tip. However, this has to be the first time I ever tipped someone fifteen percent. How disappointing. As we walked out, the second hostess ignored us and didn't say anything, no goodbye, thanks, or anything. The employees here need a bit more training. It has to start somewhere, and I'd say it begins at management. Manager(s), if you're reading this, you need to step up your game. One last thing, we're home now and both of our stomachs are hurting. How ridiculous!

Great place to go. Family friendly (does serve alcohol). Cooks will do things on grill to get kids to laugh or be amazed. Reasonably priced for restaurant of this type. Has 4-5 cooking stations that seat 10-15 people each. Also has 1 big one for parties and big groups

I've always been a huge fan of Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse Seafood and Sushi Bar, the food the past times I ate there was always great and the chef's always put on a great show while cooking at the hibachi grill... I took my family there tonight for my son's birthday and everyone ordered, the chef was a young gentleman, not the Asian Chef's that usually cook when we go in. He was very courteous, was great with the customers but the one thing that he didn't do was do a great job cooking. Everything we ate except the meat was under-cooked. The Rice which is usually great, didn't taste like it normally did. The flavor was off, it didn't have enough soy sauce and/or Teriyaki sauce in it, the onions that were in it weren't caramalized. They still had a crunch to them. I've never even tasted the onions in the fried rice in the past but tonight we had to ask for sauces to add after it was on our plates just so we could get the flavor somewhat normal. The vegetables were too crunchy. I mean this is my favorite of everything at the grill, but things were too under-cooked. The broccoli was really under-cooked. Too much crunch. The onions were very under-cooked also. Although the mushrooms were overcooked. My cabbage was ok, not the best I've had from here but was better than the fried rice and the vegetables. The meats were good, my steak was very tender but didn't have much seasoning at all. Just bland. Shrimp was good, however the chicken was the best. Fantastic job on the chicken. It was so flavorful. The sauce on the chicken needed to be in the fried rice. The beginning of the meal soup/broth was still great as always and the salad with ginger dressing was fantastic. I just wanted to write this hoping that the grill management reads these to let them know that someone needs to pay attention to the food that some of the newer chef's put out. It's just not up to par. I love this place and don't mind paying the price that we paid for our plates tonight if the food is excellent but didn't like paying over $200.00 for 5 meals when we got just sub-par food.

I was slightly disappointed with my first and only trip here. I do not think I will be in a hurry back. The sushi was okay. Well for West Monroe it was fabulous but in the big scheme of sushi restaurants it was just alright. We had a Louisiana Roll and it was okay. Our food from the hibachi grill was so salty that a few hours later I am all puffy in my hands and feet. So maybe that's a personal problem but I have had hibachi several times before and this was extra salty. The steak was pretty good but covered with so much soy sauce I started to get a headache. The salad had way too much dressing that half of it was inedible. The wait staff was slovenly dressed. No servers had their shirt tucked in. Appearance is not important here, most employees looked like slobs. This aggravates me because for the area the prices are on the higher side. $23 for the entree pictured. The restaurant it's self is weathered and a bit stale. It could use a good deep cleaning. Our waitress was friendly and brought us drinks but just set our sauce trays, chopsticks, and napkins in a pile on the table. She did the same with the soup and salad, just set them on the table not in front of us. And there were three televisions in the dining area. It is not a sports bar, I find the televisions everywhere irritating. I felt this place fell short of being a really nice restaurant really its just $10.00 above the Chinese buffet. Sad could be so much better.
